GuangDong Province (sometimes refer to as Canton Province) has a population of over 83 million, an area of 178,000 Square Kilometers (68,726 Square Miles) and a coastline of 3,368 km (2,092 ml). Because of its early development in the 1980s, close proximity to Hong Kong & Macau and easy access to the Pacific Ocean, GuangDong Province has become an economic power house and the most affluent province in China. With the highest GDP and three of China’s six Special Economic Zones (ShenZhen, ShanTou and ZhuHai), GuangDong Province contributes around 12% of China’s total economic output. Other important cities are DongGuan & ZhongShan.
GuangDong and its capital GuangZhou (or Canton City) is now recognized through out China as the “Wholesale Capital of China” where anything and everything can be made, sold, bought and wholesaled.
GuangDong & GuangZhou is not only famous for its Cantonese Cuisine but also for its twice a year famous Import/Export “Canton Fair” held in Spring and Autumn. Sarted in 1957 the Canton Fair is now the Largest Commodities Fair in attendance and business turnover in the world.
South of GuangDong lies HaiNan Island offshore from LeiZhou Peninsula, west is GuangXi, north JiangXi & HuNan, northeast is FuJian with Hong Kong and Macau lying off the South China Coast.
