NingXia with a population of 5.8 million (30% Hui) and a land area of only 66,000 Square Kilometers (25,484 Square Miles) is the smallest of China’s 5 autonomous regions, GuangXi, Inner Mongolia, Tibet (XiZang) and XinJiang make up the other four.
NingXia is wedged between Inner Mongolia, GanSu, ShaanXi and because of its strategic position on the upper reaches of the Yellow River (Huang He) and the cross roads of the Silk Road was once the great heart of the Western Xia Empire.
Today NingXia is known for its agriculture of Chinese wolfberries or goji (GouGi) supplying most of China & the world with this nutritious fruit. In China, goji is used in cooking tonic soups and in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TMC) to enhance the immune system & improve the circulation.
For Tourism NingXia has the Xixia Tombs just 30 km west of NingXia's capital, YinChua, north & east of the city are remnants of The Great Wall of China
