NanJing is the capital of Jiangsu Province an is roughly 300km up the Yangtze River from Shanghai and spent some time during the Ming Dynasty as the National Capital.

To this day there are still many monuments and landmarks that remain of that time, including the Zhonghua Gate (Gate of China), a preserved 14th-century section of the massive wall that contained the old city’s southern entrance.

Nanjing has lots of historical sights, memorials, museums and cultural sights to visit from The famous Confucius Temple (Fuzimiao), the Imperial Examination Museum of China (Jiangnan Examination Hall), the Former Residence of the Wang & Xie Families, and the Nanjing Museum just to name a few.

Some local style foods to try while in Nanjing are: Duck Blood Soup or the Salted Soup Duck, Gan Si (Shredded Bean-curd Sheets), Pressed Duck, Dou Fu Nao (Tofu pudding) and Fried Spring Onion Pancake.
