Yinchuan is divided into 2 parts called the Old City and the New City (similiar to New and Old City of LiJiang in Yunnan)
The New City of Yinchuan is huddled around the main train station while the old city lies 8 km to the east.
The best time to visit Yinchuan is in early summer or autumn, during May and June there is the Hua’er (Flower) Festival and in September the Ningxia Yinchuan International Yellow River Culture Festival.
Not to be missed in YinChuan is the Ningxia Great Wall, just 60km southwest of the New Town. The area is undeveloped so you are free to wander about, climb on as you like. Sections of the Ningxia Great Wall was primarily built from the Ming Dynasty.
